Carol Hamlet has worked with Thompsons since 1985 and has been working in employment rights cases for most of her time with the firm. She is now a highly experienced litigation assistant, specialising in equal pay.
Although Carol now works with the team that covers the North West of England, she has assisted with highly complex, long-running multi-claimant equal pay cases against employers across the country. She has also been involved in sex discrimination claims of complexity and high value on behalf of trade union members.
Carol has worked on the day-to-day delivery and case management of multi-million pound settlements involving councils across the North West and West Midlands for tens of thousands of low paid women working in the public sector.
Carol was a key member of the team that handled the huge equal pay case against Birmingham City Council involving 9,000 UNISON, GMB and Unite members, which secured more than £50 million in compensation. She also played an important role in an equal pay claim brought on behalf of 1,500 UNISON members against Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council which resulted in £15 million in compensation.
The local authorities against which she has successfully pursued equal pay claims for many thousands of trade unionists include Trafford, Bury, St. Helens, Bolton, Manchester, Liverpool, Sefton, Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham.
In addition, she has acted for women who have been denied equal pay against various regional NHS Trusts.
