Litigation assistant Rachel specialises in asbestos and radiation disease claims and has worked at Thompsons Solicitors for more than two decades.
Based at Thompsons’ Newcastle office, Rachel began her career securing compensation under the British Coal Litigation Scheme for former-miners suffering vibration white finger, before moving to the firm’s North East region asbestos disease team nine years ago.
As well as handling predominantly non-malignant asbestos disease claims in the North East, including for asbestosis, pleural thickening and plaques, Rachel also deals with claims throughout the UK involving individuals who have developed cancer after being exposed to radiation at work.
With an expert knowledge of public and employers’ liability claims, Rachel’s caseload often consists of claims that come under the Compensation Scheme for Radiation Linked Diseases and the Turner & Newalls Trust Scheme for asbestos diseases.
Friendly, empathetic and professional, Rachel’s main focus is to secure the largest compensation award possible for her clients.
The most rewarding part of working at Thompsons for Rachel is that the firm exclusively seeks legal redress for the injured party.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys working on creative projects and going to the gym.
Rachel's case experience
Radiation exposure claims: Under the Compensation Scheme for Radiation Linked Diseases, Rachel has secured substantial compensation packages for clients, and the families of clients, who have developed cancer after being exposed to radiation at work.
Asbestosis claim: Rachel represented the estate of woman who died from asbestosis, which she developed after working at a chemical plant for three decades. Although the woman was exposed to a large amount of asbestos dust during her employment, a claim was prevented for a number of years because the parent company of the employer had filed for bankruptcy in the United States. Once a compensation scheme was established, Rachel entered a claim and secured £62,279 for the late woman’s estate.
Rachel’s former client, a claimant under the Compensation Scheme for Radiation Linked Diseases, said: “Many thanks to Rachel for the work she put into the claim. Thompsons put a great deal of effort into my claim, they were extremely helpful with any questions I raised via the telephone calls made to them. I was very happy with the result.”
A former client of Rachel’s, who made a asbestosis claim under the Turner & Newalls Trust Scheme, said: “Thank you Rachel and team, for your good work and effort. Best regards.”
