As Thompsons Solicitors’ North West branch manager, Janet is responsible for overseeing all of the cases handled by the lawyers and their teams in the firm’s Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast offices. She is also the key contact for trade unions in the region.

As one of Thompsons’ specialist personal injury lawyers, Janet gained vast experience in claims involving personal injuries, asbestos-related diseases, serious accidents and fatalities.

Now, Janet’s mission is to make sure that Thompsons builds on its reputation as a law firm with a difference – one that is on the side of the worker and the trade unions. In addition to overseeing cases on behalf of union members in the region, Janet is responsible for relations with the trade unions, business development and for more than 160 members of staff.

Janet works closely with trade union regional secretaries to ensure the firm delivers the highest possible standard of quality and care, to help improve employment rights and to tailor services to the needs of members. Janet also wants to bring about changes in the law for working people.

Maintaining highly-trained professional lawyers with an alliance to the trade union movement is part of Janet’s remit, and she is constantly striving to develop their expertise. She makes sure that the specialist teams are equipped and ready to deal with claims covering personal injury, work-related disease and injury, professional misconduct and clinical negligence. Janet is determined that Thompsons goes above and beyond for its clients and believes that way Thompsons is able to support trade unions by helping them grow and retain their membership.

Janet began her career at Thompsons as a personal injury lawyer in 2000, handling cases involving accidents, amputations and fatalities, later adding asbestos-related disease cases to her wide portfolio of success. In 2011, Janet was promoted to branch manager of the West Midlands office and, in May 2015, took up her current role.

Janet is also responsible for managing lawyers in Thompsons Solicitors’ National Foreign Jurisdiction division, which deals with cases involving accidents abroad – whether on holiday or on business.

The Thompsons ethos of never working for employers or insurance companies aligns with Janet’s own goal to secure justice for working people – one of the many reasons why she finds her job so rewarding.

In her spare time, Janet can be found walking and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.
