Road Traffic Accident

Michelle’s Story

We helped a school administrator from Dagenham secure significant compensation after a road traffic accident.

Michelle Miller, 49, from Dagenham, suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a car driving on the wrong side of the road in February 2019.

Ms Miller, who was employed at a primary school in Hackney, was walking to work when she suffered multiple life-changing injuries as a result of the driver dangerously overtaking another vehicle.

This included a brain injury that resulted in cognitive issues, symptoms of dizziness and loss of balance, as well as flashbacks, anxiety and low mood.

She has also suffered problems with her left knee, fractures to her pelvis and wrist, internal injuries to her left kidney, and was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome in her left leg.

Ms Miller has returned to work after several months but only on a part-time basis.

Ms Miller said: "The accident has had a huge impact on my life. I now have a fear of speeding vehicles and I have lost the confidence to drive a car.

“I’ve also developed vertigo, which can impact my ability to sleep, and my mobility will never be the same. This one collision has been life-changing.”

The ramifications for our client, both physically and mentally, have been huge.

Kam Singh, of Thompsons Solicitors

Following the incident, Ms Miller contacted her union, UNISON, and was then put in touch with Thompsons Solicitors. Our personal injury team helped her secure more than £287,000 in compensation.

Kam Singh, of Thompsons Solicitors said: “This was a horrible accident caused by a reckless driver with no regard for the safety of others.

“The ramifications for our client, both physically and mentally, have been huge.

“Although no amount of money can undo the ongoing pain and trauma our client is suffering as a result of the accident, we’re pleased that we could help her secure compensation that recognises what she has been through and provides her with ongoing financial security.”
