The event provided an opportunity to reflect on 100 years of partnership between the trade union movement and the Labour Party, and the progress that collaboration has achieved for working people across the UK.

As a longstanding supporter of trade unions and workplace justice, Thompsons has played an active role in championing stronger rights at work, including supporting the New Deal for Working People. The firm therefore welcomed the recent passing of the Employment Rights Act 2025, a landmark piece of legislation representing one of the most significant advances in workers’ rights in a generation.

Chief Executive Clare Mellor spoke at the event alongside Joanne Thomas, Chair of Labour Unions, underlining the importance of continued partnership across the labour movement in securing and advancing protections for workers.

Attendees also heard from Ian Lavery MP, Chair of the Trade Union Group of Labour MPs, Kate Dearden MP, Minister for Employment Rights, and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP.
