A hospital worker has received a settlement after injuring her ankle at work.

The 57-year-old pharmacy assistant was walking into a hospital storage room when she slipped on spilt water and twisted her ankle.

She tried to continue working but the pain was too intense so she visited A&E, where doctors treated her for a sprained ankle. As a result of her injury she needed one week off work.

Wet floor warning signs were not on display at the time of the accident but were later placed in the area.

She instructed accident at work specialists, Thompsons Solicitors, to investigate a compensation claim.

The woman said: “If my employer had acted quickly and cleaned up the spillage, instead of letting it sit on the floor waiting for someone to injure themselves, then I wouldn’t have suffered. I couldn’t work and was in agony with a frustrating injury, making routine tasks like cleaning the house a real struggle.

“My injury has since healed, but it was great to know that I could rely on Thompsons Solicitors to provide me with legal support when I really needed it.”

Nicholas Seymour, of Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Slips and trips are one of the most common types of workplace accidents, yet ironically they are the easiest for an employer to prevent. On this occasion, the wet floor was only cleaned up after our client was injured, which is too little too late.

“While it is great that our client has recovered from her injury, the needlessness of the incident should act as a warning to all employers – you can avoid compensation claims by following health and safety basics.”
