TRIBUNAL STATS

According to statistics published recently by the Employment Tribunal Service for 2006/7, 15 per cent more cases were brought than the previous year.

There were almost twice as many sex discrimination claims and two and a half times as many equal pay claims. There was also a marked increase in claims under the part time regulations and the national minimum wage regulations.

The average award for unfair dismissal claims for the year was almost £8,000; for race discrimination just over £14,000; for sex discrimination just over £10,000; and just over £15,000 for disability discrimination.
