Thompsons solicitors are holding a seminar on 4 March in Manchester in conjunction with the North West TUC to help unions develop strategies in response to the public sector cuts.
It is clear that employers are already looking at how best they can avoid their legal duties when making cuts in response to the Con Dem Government's spending review.
This seminar, "Tackling the Cuts", will look specifically at the ways in which trade unions and their members can make the best use of the law and their collective strength to fight the cuts planned by the Coalition government.
In addition, it will provide union officers with arguments to challenge employers and so protect members who are threatened with aggressive tactics from employers.
The seminar will look at four distinct areas of law:
- changes to contracts
- redundancy
- industrial action
- public sector duties
Each session will include practical steps for unions to take to prepare for what lies ahead.
The seminar is a must for national officers, regional officers, senior and lay reps who are looking for ways to galvanise the Alternative to the Cuts campaign by using the best legal arguments to support the campaign.
The seminar, “Tackling the Cuts” will be held on:
Date: 4 March 2011
Venue : The Hall, The Mechanics Institute, 103 Princess Street, Manchester M1 6DD
Time: 10 until 4pm
