NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE

Following the introduction of the Health Act 2006, smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces was outlawed from 2 April 2007 in Wales. It applies from 30 April in Northern Ireland and 1 July 2007 in England.

Acas (the Government’s Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) has pulled together a list of common questions and answers that smokers may ask. These include questions about the right of smokers to have facilities provided outside the building, and about their right to claim under the Disability Discrimination Act and/or the Human Rights Act.

CONFLICT AT WORK

Acas has also produced a guide to Managing Conflict at Work. It looks at six questions:

What are the signs of conflict?

Who is in conflict?

What is causing conflict?

How do you manage conflict?

Do you need help?

How can you prevent future conflict?
