The High Court ruled last week that although it had been lawful for the Government to set a default retirement age (DRA) of 65 a few years ago, there was now a “compelling” case for scrapping it.

Effectively terminated

The effective date of termination (EDT) in section 97(1) of the 1996 Employment Rights Act in relation to a contract terminated without notice is the “date on which the termination takes effect.”

Motivated by race

Section 1(1) of the 1976 Race Relations Act (RRA) states that it is direct discrimination for employers to treat someone less favourably than someone else on racial grounds.
