Tipping
The requirement on an employer to provide a written policy on how it deals with tips is strengthened. In particular, the employer will be required to consult with recognised trade unions or worker representatives or, if there are no representatives, with workers directly on the written policy before the first version is produced. The obligation to consult will also apply when the employer reviews the policy which it must do once every three years starting with the first version of the policy. The employer must also provide an anonymised summary of the views expressed during the consultation to all workers. Following criticism of the draft Code of Practice which focussed on employer led consultation, the government has now issued a revised Code of Practice for consultation which closes on 29 September 2026.
