Employment Tribunal Time Limits to Increase
The time limit for bringing an employment tribunal claim is extended from three months to six months where the relevant date falls on or after 1 October 2026.  The relevant date is the date of the act complained of, such as the date of discrimination or the date of dismissal.  For contract claims the time limit applies where the date of termination is on or after 1 October in England and Wales and 9 November 2026 in Scotland. The increase in the time limits together with the fact early conciliation periods can now last up to 12 weeks means there will be significant additional time in which to present claims.  Notwithstanding that, it will remain as important as ever to gather evidence at the time any incident occurs giving rise to a claim in order for it to be pleaded as comprehensively as possible.
