Employment tribunal limits increased
The Act extends the time limit for bringing an employment tribunal claim from three months to six months from the date of the act complained of such as the date of discrimination or the date of dismissal. This is due to come into force in October 2026. Â
The increase in the time limits to bring a legal claim follows the increase to the early conciliation period from six weeks to 12, which came into force on 1 December 2025. Together it, is likely to mean it will take much longer for claims to be heard in the employment tribunal. It will therefore be more important that evidence to support a claim is gathered at the time of the act complained of as memories are likely to have faded by the time a full hearing date is set.
