New regulations were laid before Parliament on 6 December which provide for most of the remaining provisions of the Trade Union Act 2016 to come into force.

These provisions relate to (i) the imposition of levies on trade unions and the power to make regulations concerning financial penalties to be imposed on unions, which came into force on 8 December; and (ii) other provisions relating to the Certification Officer’s new powers, which will come into force on 1 April 22.

This will leave the ‘reserve powers’ relating to facility time (section 14) as the only provision of the Trade Union Act not yet brought into force.
