Accident at work claim: John represented a school caretaker and GMB member who injured his knee after falling from a ladder at work. The caretaker, from Leeds, was trying to unlock a toilet cubicle door while standing on a ladder. The ladder slipped on the floor tiles because its non-slip caps were missing. The caretaker required two operations for a torn ligament, sustained a prominent knee scar and was put at risk of needing knee-replacement surgery in the future. John secured a £30,000 compensation package for his client.

Industrial disease claim: John’s client developed hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) after using vibrating tools while working for Severfield Reeve Structures at Dalton Airfield in Thirsk. The 53-year-old began showing mild HAVS symptoms in 2006 but wasn’t diagnosed until a year later. Following the diagnosis, the man’s union directed Thompsons Solicitors to investigate a compensation claim. John secured £18,000 for his client after the employer admitted liability.
