Business Secretary Vince Cable is under pressure to tackle abuse of zero-hours contracts following publication of research this week estimating more than 1 million workers could be affected.
The Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (TULRCA) states that, if an employer proposes to make 20 or more employees redundant at “one establishment”, they have to collectively consult in advance of the dismissals.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act (now the Equality Act), employers have to make a reasonable adjustment if a provision, criterion or practice (PCP) puts the disabled person at a substantial disadvantage compared to someone who is not disabled.
