With the Equality Act due to come into force in October 2010, the Government Equalities Office has produced a series of quick guides for public sector, voluntary and community organisations as well as employers and businesses.
EU legislation says that part timers and fixed-term workers cannot be treated less favourably than full time or permanent employees.
An employer can be penalised financially for not complying with the Information and Consultation of Employees (ICE) regulations unless they have a “reasonable excuse”.
