As a solicitor on Thompsons’ Employment Rights Unit, Tom’s caseload includes claims involving unauthorised deductions, working time and unfair dismissal.
Tom also works on cases of discrimination, whistleblowing, Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE), breach of contract and cases pertaining to collective issues such as protective award claims.
Having gained a wealth of knowledge and experience on employment law and industrial relations since qualifying as a solicitor in 2006, Tom provides direction and advice on all aspects of such matters to trade unions in the region.
Tom’s close working relationship with Thompsons’ trade union clients means he is the first port of call for senior regional union officials needing telephone advice and often gives talks and training sessions at union events throughout the North East and Yorkshire.
A firm believer in the ability of collective action to achieve justice for working people, Tom is proud that Thompsons works exclusively for injured parties and the trade unions that represent them.
When not at work, Tom enjoys cycling, cricket and keeping fit.
Tom’s former client said: “My solicitor was Tom Devlin and he constantly reassured me throughout my case. He won my case and more compensation than I thought I would receive. He was brilliant and would highly recommend him to any friend/family.”
Another of Tom’s former clients said: “From the very onset I found Tom Devlin to be very professional, helpful and reassuring at a time when I needed quality legal advice and support. I feel he went the extra mile to ensure that he did everything he possibly could and this was very much appreciated. I feel he is a credit to the profession and Thompsons have a very hard working solicitor.”
